I know I’m an R&B girl, and I’ll forever will be, and I’d like to think the movie, The Five heartbeats have something to do with my love for the genre. So that was tonight’s movie, and now I’m listening to the soundtrack, which equally hits. Watching the movie as an adult, hit differently as well, because JT needed his ass beat for rocking with Duck’s lady. Even though, she wasn’t it either and ONLY came after Duck because he was who he was. When he was just starting out, and writing poetry for her, she didn’t want no parts. However JT should’ve known better, but you can’t ask for much from a selfish man. I do love that he kept his promise and named his son after Duck. Choirboy also got on my damn nerves, with his lying self. Talking bout they call him Rock! Sir, Mr.Choirboy sir, stop it. I roll my eyes just typing.
I do love that the movie felt completed. I’m glad we were able to see them as grown men, with families, with careers, with lives. It did make a difference especially to see Black men in that light.
