Gilded Ages

Season One.

Maybe I should’ve taken notes, but I honestly didn’t expect to throughly enjoy this show as much as I have. Don’t think I’m going to give a full recap but its a really good show. Think Bridgerton but petty, and there’s no celebration for rags to riches. No celebration for pulling yourself up by the bootstraps. Either youre wealthy, and your family has always been wealthy, or its irrelevant. However Mrs. Russell is determined to be apart of the ‘old’ World, and will do all that’s needed to make that happen. With her husband in tow, there’s almost nothing she can’t bring for fruition.

In New York, In America, almost anything can happen right? A small town girl, can be throwed into the thick of NY high society, but what happens when her Prince Charming realizes, why settle for love when money is an attainable goal. In this same America, can a African American girl from a successful family chose to make her own path without any assistance from a family who do not support her choices? Throughly enjoyed this series, and although season two is available and ready for consumption, let’s focus on another show? Your pick?

The Wire S1E1

“The Target”

So I’ve decided to rewatch all the seasons of ‘The Wire’, yes that revolutionary television show, that captured The war on Drugs and Crime in Baltimore City. My City. Sidenote, Its a bit weird seeing what Baltimore used to be, knowing what it looks like today. But back to the show, its funny the episode is named Target, because in the first episode there are many. {Two targets, becomes victims.} However throughout the episode we see numerous, from the stripper trying to create a John out of Dee, to the white boy attempting to scam Wallace out of coke, to Detective McNulty targeting Avon Barksdale’s drug operation. Everyone is in it to gain something. The episode actually opens to a murder, the target turned victim being ‘snot’, who had robbed the weekly dice game, but was never denied entry, although it was known, once the pot got big enough, he would snatch and dash. But because this is ‘america’ he was always allowed to play, although, just like ‘america’ he played by his own rules.

If you haven’t watched, you get no trophy! Go watch the damn show!
