96,000

I’ve been listening to R&B lately, that I haven’t been in my musical bag, but the song 96,000 from the musical ‘In the heights’ just came on. And I realize I actually really love this song. I am still so mad at about the movie. I Still hate it, and refuse to watch it. I’m sure there’s a recorded version of the Broadway show, and I would love to see it. I’ve thought about writing to Lin-Manuel Miranda so he can release it cuz I would be toooooo hyped to see it. However I think that really might be a pipe dream.

Feel the beat tho

For a person, ME, who loves Haitian culture, and people, you would think I would have been dived into Haitian music but nope. And there really isn’t a reason why, I just never went seeking. Well until now, I started listening to Jovans Lorquet’s album, Oui. Which was released in April of 2023. Taken from ‘Voyage Mia’, Lorquet is known for singing zouk, kompa, and R&B, which his latest release is a blend of. Although he mostly sings in Haitian creole, the vibe, and the beats is something that can be understood in any language. My favorite song currently is ‘Dodomeya’

Take a moment, listen to his music, then come back and tell me what’s your favorite track.

All Roads Lead To

London. Or maybe I’m just making all the signs point to England. Ive been listening to Olivia Deane lately, and now of course, I’d like to see her on tour. Which she’s currently on … in England. At this point in Life, I really need to be an music executive, but with none of the responsibility. I just want to always be guaranteed of concert tickets, doesn’t even have to be VIP, as long as I can get in the building. Is Olivia Deane on your radar? She def should be.

Currently my favorite song is I could be a florist, but Ladies Room is the song Ive been listening to the most as of recent. Both tracks are off the album, Messy.

Raye

I don’t know if I told y’all but a few weeks ago I went to see Raye live in concert in Stl. I made a whole thing of it, actually, ended up staying at a hotel that I’d been eyeing for a long while. Prior to going to the show, I’d listen to a few, one, song(s) off Raye’s album My 21st Century Blues, but I hadn’t listened to enough songs to actually go to a show. However when has common sense ever stopped me in regards to music? I’ve been obsessed with the album ever since, she recently dropped a version of the album Live at Royal Albert Hall with The heritage Orchestra. I have to force myself to listen to other music, but baybee, this is it.

Also, sidenote, I was front row of the show, off the left but front row nonetheless. That’s a dangerous place to be when you don’t actually know the lyrics to any songs, but I just knew I’d love the show. Tell you what, I go see her right now, and I’m singing my little heart out. Adlibs and all! Fun fact, as I write this, escapism just started.

Are you a fan of Raye?

Baby Tate Presents

Are y’all a fan of Baby Tate? If I’m honest, Ive never listened to any of her music, and I have no real reason as to why I haven’t. My first introduction into her was on love & hip hop, but then that might not be true. I think I saw a few clips, and possibly a soundbite of a song on social media, but nothing that grabbed me. Nothing in those few clips made me want to seek her music. Well baby, I’m currently listening to her new project, Baby Tate Presents – Sexploration:The Musical, and can I say, I am smitten. I loved the blend of house music, pop, gogo/jersey mix and a bit of R&B. Shout Out to those ads on TikTok, they made me curious. With her catchy rhymes, she really is a lyrical beast. This project is the kind of music that you can pregame to, or sit in the house cleaning the house, but in all ways, its a boost of confidence, and I absolutely love it. I was going to try to list what my favorite songs are but I can’t, I legit love every song, especially Grip. And overly sexual songs aren’t my usual go to but she did that! With this project, I’m a fan.

Sleepin’

I’ll agree its weird how I listen to albums, because I’ll find ‘the’ song I most love on the full body of work, and only listen to that song which is silly. I know how important a full body of work is, but here I am backtracking and listening to a full album. NOBODY has to tell me how dope Leon Thomas is, I already know but babes, his album Genesis, is an absolute delight. Genius! A Unskipable (is this a word?) album. Definitely an R&B album, with sounds that make you feel your in love, well for the duration of the song.

What an incredible talent! I can wait to see him on tour baby!

Also, I’m going to sit with the body of work, and I’ll let you know my top three songs but right now, Mrs.Variety is number two, Sunken Place will always be my favorite song off this project.
