#DiningwithDariusCooks

Here’s my story.

As y’all know I had promised myself since I had previously went to three (!!!) #DiningwithDariusCooks I didn’t need to attend anymore. However because I had talked about him and his events (So Much) I had friends who had yet to experience the splendor, so when tickets became available for New York, they purchased tickets, and wanted me to tag along. Although I had just came back from the Chicago date a few weeks earlier, and I really didn’t want to go to the New York date, I still purchased a ticket. I couldn’t let my friends have a ‘house party’ without me, so of course I was down to go again.

Well the day was coming up, and we are all so excited! I’m telling them all about the past dates and how much fun I had with the other guests, including my friends outside of work. So you can imagine the disappointment, when there was no event. Yup, it was cancelled but I did NOT receive any notice of the cancellation. I sent an email, and my friend also sent an email, to which we did not receive a reply. It just so happened, Darius started a Live on Instagram, to which I sent a message, and he stated “I’m not on here to talk about Dining with Darius Cooks but the event was cancelled, check your spam” Now being that I’ve been THREE TIMES BEFORE I know to check my spam, and yet there was nothing there. I even had my friend check her inbox and spam boxes, same thing, no email! So I didn’t trip, I was just like I understand that he has a lot going on, since he had recently opened his restaurant but I’m annoyed. IF you were going to canceled an event, at least have the imagination to call the folks, personally, or have someone who works with you call, if you were too busy to do it yourself.

The event was scheduled to take place on June 19, I submitted my request for a refund, but I am STILL patiently waiting. I’m unclear as to why it is taking this long, but its a lesson learned. Like I Said in the beginning, I may be able to support him later on but as for right now, I’m 100% good on him. However It did create a bad impression for my friends who purchased tickets, and were left to figure out the next steps they should take.

I think I may still tap him to be the chef for my wedding, as his food is that good! Unless I find a Chef I vibe with, then that’s a wrap! However I definitely wish him the very best!

  1. It left a bad taste for me. It heard so much about dining with Darius that I purchased my tickets over a year in advance for July 8th in Philly. I had to opt out of a lot of summer plans scheduled for the weekend of this event. I was excited to go. Then the day before the event I received an email about his mental health condition, which is plausible. However, upon further research I saw that I could find no postings of pictures for events after mid May. The powers that be knew this event for Philadelphia would be canceled long before giving a one day notice. I feel like my money was used as capital for his new restaurant. It is discouraging to know that after almost a month you have not received your refund. My $389.00 was not easy to come by and it was an extravagant treat for myself and my mother. I wanna support , but my first experience with DariusCooks has left a nasty taste in my mouth.

    1. I’m very sorry to hear this happened to you as well. His lack of communication was disgusting, being as he’s a business man, he should’ve had the proper team working with him to ensure things run as smoothly as they possibly can. The one day notice, is unacceptable, especially since he knew he’d be canceling. If you still want to support, I say possibly purchase a cookbook, or just utilize the free recipes on his website. 😃 I do hope you’ll be able to still have an amazing summer. I hear Philadelphia is the place to be!

  2. It is definitely not a “one off” situation. I purchased tickets in March for the October date in Charlotte. No email communication as to the cancellation of the rest of the dates. Only the post on IG. The statement made about refunds coming with no definite time line is highly unacceptable. My bank can’t dispute it because I purchased the tickets more than 90 days ago. I requested a refund through EventBrite about 3 weeks ago and nothing has happened. It’s still pending. YET, Darius continues to post pics in his IG story of shoes purchased, cash, and a passport. So I want to know if my refund of my HARD EARNED money is in that cash he is flashing for the Gram…… I was cool at first but this has gone on too long. I definitely think that money was used as capital for his restaurant but this is a horrible way to do business!

    1. I feel the same way. Im beyond annoyed with this especially because I’ve supported with no problems. I’m not sure why I needed to go on Instagram to find out that you wasn’t going to be doing the event. That’s just unacceptable. I’ve since deleted him from my Instagram feed because I didn’t want to be reminded that I still hadn’t received my money but yet you out here living life like it’s all good. Even an apology would’ve made up for how I’m feeling now. Ultimately I just want my money back, even if I’d spent two dollars, it’s mine. Hopefully this situation will be resolved soon because I’m tired of going back and forth with Eventbrite. I do apologize that this man’s way of doing business isn’t worth a damn!

  3. Just happened to me at an event that was supposed to be held in Cleveland oh June 30th. Last minute cancellation… I think he books many of these things with plans to cancel. Definitely not professional.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve washed my hands with him, unfortunately. He’s a great cook, but when it comes down to being a business man, he fails every time. The bigger his brand becomes the more he just drops the ball. Hopefully he’ll refund your money in a timely fashion.
