… like Piña Colada

Garlick’s (My mother) favorite alcoholic beverage was Piٌña Colada! I remember her and my godmother would put on music, and while dancing in the kitchen, mix up the ingredients, then blend to perfection in a white blender that was loud af. Bacardi was always the rum of choice, as well as the frozen Bacardi Piña Colada mixers, still found in your neighborhood grocers. On occasions, my mother would make a Virgin Piٌña Colada for my niece and I, but I would still ask for a sip of hers, cuz even as a kid, alcohol was life.

I recently got to experience the hotel in Puerto Rico where the Piña Colada was created. It’s as delicious but as fresh as my mind would’ve imagined it. I toasted to my mother and wished she could be there to experience just how that drink was able capture the ‘tropics’ of Puerto Rico. Next time you’re in Puerto Rico be sure to stop by Caribe Hilton, where you too can ‘taste’ the best of Puerto Rico.

When In … Nashville

Let’s talk about Nashville.

I can definitely understand why Nashville is being hailed as the “New Vegas”. Last month I was able to experience most of what Honky Town (their words, not mine) had to offer. As y’all know every month, a destination is chosen, then my fly sister and I partake in the culture of said city. I must say, it was an interesting trip, at the least. Do you know how much trouble one can get into in Nashville? Tons babe! Side note: Be open-minded, and don’t be sober for too long.

After walking up and down the bar strip, we FINALLY found a bar that played Hip Hop/R&B, bonus its the rooftop. Double bonus is the famous Nudie’s Honky Tonk! Just know alcohol is definitely liquid courage, it helps you to live outside of your head. {DISCLAIMER: Know your fucking limit when drinking!} I had a great time, dancing, and vibing to the music. I believe always being in control and in charge of my life, sometimes leave me forgetting to enjoy the moment I’m currently in.

What city has helped to release your Inhibitions?

La Puerta (San Diego)

So San Diego was a good look. I was able to first experience San Diego on a layover, and the weather was such a change of pace from the wintery mess we were experiencing in Baltimore at the time. As a general unspoken rule, when I clock in to work on day one, I usually don’t partake in alcoholic beverages while on a layover, just because. However if the crew and I go out, I’m not judging anyone who wants to do so. Well that rule was broken when I went to La Puerta. A Mexican eatery, with an amazing happy hour and quesadillas so good, they are bound to make you cry!

As y’all know, Or don’t, every month my flight attendant sister travel to a different location to de-stress as work can be a bit much at times. So it was my pick, and San Diego was the destination. The first stop had to be La Puerta! I’d had the PurpleHaze, which is a mixture of their sangria and a frozen margarita. I went on to drink The Angel Of Harlem, which was a spicy concoction of El Jimador Reposada, Aperol, Serrano Agave, Lime, Strawberry, THEN topped with a jalapeño. For food,  I played it safe, El Pastor Quesadilla, which grilled pineapples and jalapeños were added, highly recommend.

La Puerta is located in the Gaslamp district at 560 4th Ave, San Diego 92101

FYI, Don’t try the “Bad Medicine” drink, Its SUPER Nasty! Yuck!

Rosè Girl White

Please do NOT purchase!

In my years of drinking wine, or alcohol, this HAD to be one of the worst drinks ever. It was bitter and dry! Just an all around nasitness to the taste, I even tried to go beyond the initial taste but I’m still not interested. If you do try this (special) flavor wine, please hit me up so we can compare notes.
